Christmas Morning at Home

The kids were up and opening their stockings by the time AJ and I heard them at 6:45...Luci found her baby doll sling, and Jonas his super hero cape (I didnt really like how it turned out, but that is another post!) After the stockings, we ate a starter breakfast of cereal and made some strong coffee so that we could keep up with the kids. We read the real story of Christmas, reminding them of the whole point of the gift-giving, and then opened a few gifts.

Star Wars, Leapster style

Luci liked J's cape more than he did actually. She strutted around the house with her foam sword saying, "Super Luci!" I think the red satin and gold trim must have been to frilly for J.

E's first Christmas. Oh, the love.

Mommy (not quite awake) snuggling with her littlest man after his Christmas morning feeding.

Dr. Rader got me a toasty warm robe, and I got him a beard trimmer and some Aveda aftershave (have you seen that thing lately?!)

While the kids played with their toys, I snuck into the kitchen to make Christmas Crepes, which we enjoyed for brunch with apple smoked bacon....yum! Then, while the kids napped, AJ and I frantically finished packing for our trip north.

One funny note from the morning. Jonas was introduced to Santa this year at school, even sitting on his lap. He's asked a few questions about the big guy in red, but we havent made a big deal out of him. He asked why we didnt tell him about him, and we said it was because while Santa is fun, Jesus is the focus of all our celebrating. He never asked if Santa was real, we never talked about him, nor did we write, "from Santa" on any gifts. (Hey, we dont give the kids many gifts and we dont want to share the glory with Santa.) But we did wonder what he would ask Christmas morning. After opening his stocking, he paused, looked up at us, and said, "Who gave us these?" Mommy and Daddy did, was our reply. "Oh" he said. And that was it. Whatever he was wondering about Santa didnt seem to matter. And the gifts being from us didnt seem to make the day any less magical.
If you ask me, Jesus coming by way of a virgin birth is about as magical as it gets.
