We had a full weekend, with our friend Steve in town and staying with us. He is part of the alt-country duo The Spares
which played Friday night at the Harrison Center opening and Sunday morning as part of the worship service at church. It was great to have them here, and for my worlds to overlap. Ive known Steve since high school, and its been fun to see his dream of becoming a musician turn into a reality. If you havent heard their music, you should take a quick trip to their website. Jodee Lewis' voice has crisp beauty and has been compared with the sounds of Allison Krauss. Steve is an incredible songwriter and guitarist, not to mention a darn good singer himself. Anyway, I was happy to share them with our community here, and they seemed to enjoy themselves too.
Lucille didnt feel too well on Friday, but Saturday she seemed a bit better, but still not herself (you can tell from the picture). We trekked down to Bloomington to explore and check out some possible venues for The Spares for the future. It was a beautiful day, and we all enjoyed it. We also took in a taste at the new Farm Bloomington, a restaurant which is getting a lot of attention down there and which features a world renown chef and cuisine with international and regional flare. One word: yummy. Kid-friendly to boot. I love great food, but ambiance is also quite important to me too, and this place has both. Its a mix of funky Americana, but without the cheesiness of Cracker-Barrel (although they do have some "country"things for sale in the front of the store.
Sunday Steve and Jodee played at Redeemer and were well received. AJ stayed home with Luci who had taken a turn for the worst. She was breathing really quickly and very lethargic. After church, I called our pediatrician friend Gil, who had offered to check her over. He suggested we take her to the ER for a chest x-ray. Turns out she had a slight viral pneumonia! Poor thing. She is on the upswing now, thankfully. I knew she was feeling better when she started squealing again. She loves to squeal.
Steve and Jodee left Sunday after church, Jodee with her kiddos and Steve with his holey muffler and trunk full of guitars. We're looking forward to their next trip to town already!
