The wait is over (for now): The post on AJ's new job

If you read this post a couple of months ago, you know that AJ spent an entire year looking for a new job. But you don't know the rest of the story.....
and its pretty darn amazing.

Here goes.
The second week of May, AJ finished up his work at IUPUI. There still were no job offers on the table and we only had two weeks of benefits and pay left. I was offered a full-time position at the hospital and we seriously contemplated my taking it. Every day. But there was no peace in the decision, so the waiting continued, though we felt a bit crazier with every passing day.
And then the call came.
Eli Lily was offering AJ his dream job.
A position in research that would affirm the last 10 years (at least) of his work and put it to good use in the world of drug design.
Our prayers were being answered.
Finally.
But perfectly.

AJ had applied to over 400 jobs if you can believe it.
But the one he landed was the one he DIDNT apply for. They had come to him.
Searched him out. Created the position out of a desire to use his unique gifts and abilities.

If we had written his job description a year ago ourselves, it would have been a lot like the one he was offered. We didnt know it would take a year for God to work out all the details. We didnt even know what to ask for. But HE knew.

And He also knew we needed this year of waiting. He knew that in that year we would dream together, pray together, grow a deeper faith together. He know that AJ would learn to cry humble tears of trust, and that I would learn to let go of my anxious striving.

The loving hands of our Father always take us to good and perfect pasture. Even if first we must walk through rocky, sparse, dry land to get there.

We are still in awe of this provision.
Yesterday we sang the hymn that early last year became our theme song.
And this time as we sang it, we knew in a most profound way how true these words are.

Hold Thou my hand: so weak I am, and helpless;

I dare not take one step without Thy aid.

Hold Thou my hand: for then, O Loving Saviour,

No dread of ill shall make my soul afraid.

Hold Thou my hand: and closer, closer draw me

To Thy dear self, my hope, my joy, my all;

Hold Thou my hand: lest haply I should wander,

And missing Thee, my trembling feet should fall.

Hold Thou my hand: the way is dark before me

Without the sunlight of Thy face divine;

But when by faith I catch its radiant glory,

What heights of joy, what rapturous songs are mine!

Hold Thou my hand, that when I reach the margin
Of that lone river Thou didst cross for me,
A heavenly light may flash along its waters,
And every wave like crystal bright shall be.
